Description
You operate with growing independence, carrying planning studies and graphic deliverables from concept through documentation under the direction of a senior planner or director while sharpening the analytical and storytelling skills that turn a complex site into a persuasive vision.
What You Will Do
- Prepare planning documents, master plans, land-use and site plans, diagrams, design standards, and planning studies from concept through to documented deliverables.
- Conduct site analysis, precedent research, and data collection (demographic, spatial, environmental, and regulatory) to inform design decisions.
- Develop conceptual and schematic design for urban design and master-planning projects, working from the bigger picture down to the block scale.
- Produce clear graphic and narrative reports and presentations that communicate research, process, and design concepts to clients, community stakeholders, and public agencies.
- Prepare renderings, plans, and 3D studies that test and illustrate planning options.
- Coordinate within multidisciplinary teams of planners, architects, and landscape architects to meet overall project objectives.
- Apply an understanding of local planning, zoning, and land-use codes to keep proposals feasible and compliant.
- Consider the social and environmental impact of planning decisions and contribute to the firm’s sustainability and resilience goals.
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture, architecture, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in urban planning, urban design, and/or master planning beyond entry level, and building toward senior responsibility.
- Working knowledge of planning, zoning, and land-use codes, with the ability to prepare compliant proposals.
- Proficiency in GIS and mapping tools; AutoCAD and/or Rhino; SketchUp; and the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Strong graphic, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn analysis into a persuasive visual narrative.
- Demonstrated ability to carry planning studies and deliverables through multiple stages with growing independence.
- An understanding of the social and environmental impact of planning and design solutions.
- Curiosity, rigor, and a collaborative, mindful approach to design.
